Biography
I have been worked professionally in software development for over 20 years. Born and
raised in Boston, I earned a Bachelor's Degree in English from Brandeis
University and now live in Chapel Hill, North Carolina, with my wife, Robin, and
two children, Emma and Dylan.
I work as a Documentation Specialist
for SAS Institute in Cary, North Carolina, where I maintain my
department's internal web site and also
document the programming interfaces to various
graphics components that ship with The SAS System.
In addition to working for SAS, I serve as database manager for the
North Carolina Writers' Network and
also for
Chatham County Together!. For both of these
organizations, I designed and implemented an Internet-based database system
using MySQL for the database and PHP for the web pages. I also maintain web pages for other clients,
including Obesity and Quality of Life
Consulting in Durham, North Carolina.
For the past fifteen years, I have taught business and
technical writing for the North Carolina Writers' Network, and I teach a Technical
Writing Workshop for the
Duke Continuing Studies certificate program
in Technical Communication.
In January 2001, I became director of the Center for Business and
Technical Writing, a program of the North Carolina Writers' Network. In that
capacity, I promote and coordinate writing workshops onsite for North
Carolina businesses.
